Parenting wins + Gotye

I would normally save this kind of thing for a Friday Funny, but I just had to post this clip. Gotye’s “Somebody I Used to Know” is, well, the hottest song in world right now and I don’t care what you say if you don’t think it is ’cause I think it’s totally awesome and like what would you know about music anyway. Phew. Did I just say that aloud?

Anyway, the world love’s Gotye, including these absolutely adorable kids who have made their own video clip! I might have watched this seventy-three times today already.

I recently discovered another example of superb parenting in the form of kids miming in the car, this time to Queen:

And finally, I just have to post these two awesome covers of “Somebody I Used to Know”. Firstly the incredible acapella version by Pentatonix and the amazingly popular cover by Walk off the Earth:

TED: Media and Children

This fascinating TEDx Rainier talk by paediatrician, researcher and parent Dimitri Christakis is a balanced and well-presented look at media and its effects on early learning. In particular I was surprised by the effects of over-stimulation; prolonged exposure to rapid image change (TV) may precondition the brain to expect high levels of stimulation, leading to inattention in later life.

I am a huge fan of TED and its various conferences and this 15-minute talk has risen to one of my favourites.
