FF: Teachers dancing behind students

This week’s Friday Funny is dedicated to all those teachers out there. For once, it’s time to get your own back!

FF: Hamish and Andy vs Rihanna

Hamish and Andy are one of the most successful and entertaining match-ups in recent Australian radio and television history, especially for Gen Y and Gen Z. My claims to fame with these guys are that Andy Lee was a couple of years behind me in school (we played trumpet together) and that Itchy Feet, the crazy marching band I was involved with for many years, did a great gig in Adelaide when Hamish and Andy gave away a house a few years ago.

This week’s Friday Funny is a great moment where the boys take on pop-sensation Rihanna, whose recent song includes potentially infringing material. Hilarious stuff!

Parenting wins + Gotye

I would normally save this kind of thing for a Friday Funny, but I just had to post this clip. Gotye’s “Somebody I Used to Know” is, well, the hottest song in world right now and I don’t care what you say if you don’t think it is ’cause I think it’s totally awesome and like what would you know about music anyway. Phew. Did I just say that aloud?

Anyway, the world love’s Gotye, including these absolutely adorable kids who have made their own video clip! I might have watched this seventy-three times today already.

I recently discovered another example of superb parenting in the form of kids miming in the car, this time to Queen:

And finally, I just have to post these two awesome covers of “Somebody I Used to Know”. Firstly the incredible acapella version by Pentatonix and the amazingly popular cover by Walk off the Earth:

Catching up!

This parenting caper is amazing. And amazingly time consuming. I feel I have let myself down on the blogging front, but never fear, I have a lot of material I am bursting to write. Between spending every minute with my little girl, keeping up social and professional musical commitments and working, there isn’t much time left in the day!

So here’s a quick wrap up of what we’ve been up to while I get myself together.

I have been out playing a lot of music over the last month. There was ANZAC Day (see a panorama of the room I played in) and most recently a production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, complete with some usual shenanigans:

Alice started discussing global issues with us. Well, not quite, but check this out at week seven:

We kept up our usual social engagements; breakfasts, birthdays and even a fancy dress party!

Jess’ dad turned 64, so I just had to do this for him:

All in all it has been an incredibly hectic but thoroughly enjoyable two months with Alice!

Timelapse – Birth to 12 years

This was to be my Friday Funny this week but as it’s not really funny and The Age beat me to the punch I thought I’d post it today as it is still relevant to my life as a parent. Frans Hofmeester is a Dutch photographer and film-maker and has been chronicling his daughter Lotte’s life, one video a week, since October 1999.

I particularly like that this video is made from other short video clips rather than photographs, which often make up traditional timelapse videos.

Enjoy!

FF: Justin Bieber – Literary Genius

While I’m not familiar with Canadian icon Gordon Pinset, his reading of the ‘highlights’ from Justin Bieber’s memoir is a corker. Enjoy this week’s Friday Funny!

P.S. I promise to finish a couple of posts I am currently working on very soon, including our first month wrap up. And yes, I totally realise by the time it arrives we’ll be due for month number two! Can you believe it?!

Change

This song is a little more cheeky and fun than my other two. I was inspired to write this it as I battled yet another telecommunications provider who suddenly referred me to a debt collection agency for an account that had been closed months earlier. So much energy, so much wasted time, all for nothing!

LYRICS

[Verse 1]
I’ve got no reception, building lots of tension,
Companies are dealing with lots of dissension,
I’m thinking of staging a customer defection, but there are
People out there dying of untreatable infection.

[Chorus]
We’ve got to make a difference but it’s hard to shift our focus,
If we let these insignificances provoke us,
What’s it going to take to find something to invoke us?

Change!
I’ll make a change for the good,
I’ll change the things that I should
And not let these first world problems
Be all that I fight
I’ll keep the passion alight
Well I might, BUT…

[Verse 2]
The internet’s down, I can’t check my emails,
I can’t update my status or Google gorgeous females,
Going to fail my course ’cause Wikipedia’s got the details, but there are
People in our oceans killing off endangered whales.

[Verse 3]
Walking through the shopping centre, coming from the station,
The local gym is hiring without an obligation,
A pair of happy hippies bails me up for a donation, for some
Undernourished kids from an undernourished nation.

[Verse 4]
The TV’s on the fritz, I can’t increase the brightness,
I can’t find the chargers for my iDevices,
I’ve written to the government about the petrol prices, but there are
Countries out there crumbling through economic crises.

[Verse 5]
Australia is struggling to bring home the ashes,
They’re losing all their local games and exhibition clashes,
They’ve even lost their international twenty twenty bashes, but there are
Millions of us killed and injured in horrific crashes.

FF: Rob Paulsen sings Nations from Animaniacs

This week’s Friday funny is something I saw a long time ago but stumbled on this week. As a young teenager I loved the Animaniacs, a zany Warner Brothers Cartoon by none other than Stephen Spielberg.

One of the songs Yakko performed was the Nations of the World. In this video Rob Paulsen, the voice of Yakko sings the song during some sort of presentation.

I have also added the original version below as well. Enjoy!

FF: 2 year-old William dances the jive

This kid has some serious moves. And his bow is a fitting finale for a cracking routine! Enjoy this week’s Friday Funny.

FF: Herry and John John count to 20

This week’s Friday Funny is a gorgeous clip from Sesame Street and thankfully keeps in line with the whole ‘kids’ theme my life is now running by. Enjoy!
